A user centered approach to connecting disability and at-home care providers to those in need with Karista

Danielle Bodinnar and her amazing team at Karista wanted to provide the world with a more customer centric way to interact with providers of disability and home care. When we first met with them they had a tonne of experience and knowledge of the industry, some great backing and some hand drawn sketches of what they were dreaming of for the platform they wanted to build.

Ben Kneebone, I and the team at Common Code helped them turn that early vision into a design and plan for a new platform that would work to serve those needing care and their families.

Karista cared first and foremost that care providers have the ability to represent themselves in a great light, but also that customer of those services would be able to share their experiences and rate providers, ultimately aiming to facilitate more discussion between services and their customers, and through Karista, highlight those providers who took action to provide the best products and options for people.

"Our objective is to create a place where people can share experiences, where other people in similar situations can read, review and compare to find the right support for them."

Ben and I collaborated on user and competitor, research, user journey mapping and an iterative cycle of wireframing and user testing to arrive at our initial designs. Once a design system and brand had been created, we went about elaborating that to the many sections of the platform.

The platform uses a bold and clear style, with succinct use of written messaging and an uncluttered, simple feeling layout. Designed to work across all devices and with screen readers and accessibility at the forefront, the platform now incorporates information, search, ratings/reviews, a service price quoting system and sign up and paperwork gathering on behalf of service providers.

We designed and implemented a dashboard and management system for service providers to be able to manage their content, tags, services and respond to user reviews for their services.

We built our the platform with a Common Code development team, and worked with those developers over a set of sprints to deliver features in an iterative fashion.

The platform has been a success, delivering information, booking systems and putting the power of customer reviews and ratings in the hands of users of the services listed. The Karista team is continuing to improve the service and expand the providers available for customers of all kinds.
